Shah Rukh Khan’s latest cinematic marvel, Dunki, graced the silver screen this Thursday 21 December, riding high on the success of SRK’s earlier hits, Pathaan released in January and Jawan released in September, both surpassing the remarkable Rs 1,000 crore mark globally.

This much-anticipated film not only marks Rajkumar Hirani’s return after five years but also boasts a star-studded cast including Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Anil Grover, Vikram Kochhar, and Dia Mirza. Raj Kumar Hirani is known for successful track record of classics like 3 Idiots, Munnabhai MBBS, and PK.

Fans are bubbling with excitement, having booked early morning slots to ensure they are among the first to witness SRK’s much-anticipated cinematic masterpiece. The film’s debut show in India took place at the iconic Gaiety Galaxy in Mumbai at the early hour of 5.55 am, and fans turned it into a spectacular celebration. Videos capturing this epic scene spilled onto social media, quickly going viral.

Sharing a video SRK asked fans to watch Dunki

Shah rukh Khan shared, “Laltu ho ya London, Dunki dekhne jana kar lo done.. So go and watch Hardy and his yaar, With your family, friends and pyaar! Book your tickets! #Dunki in cinemas now!”.

Shah Rukh Khan playfully remarked about the lively festivities happening around the theaters. He jokingly pondered whether the enthusiastic fans might continue their playful wrestling matches outside rather than heading inside to catch the movie.

A fan who watched the film described Dunki’s script as brilliant and also shared his review. The user wrote, “Rajkumar Hirani does it again. The script is excellent, the acting is brilliant and the movie will remain among Hindi Cinema gems forever. Direction point of view I don’t think so that anybody could do better than Raj Kumar Hirani.”

Another fan wrote “DUNKI is an emotional Rollercoaster ride, u will laugh n cry at the same time.

Fan shared his review “1st half done. Dunki is an emotional roller coaster. You laugh & cry at the same time. Vicky Kaushal will be remembered and yes ‘Hardy namuna nahin hain’ – he is King Khan. Missing home.”

Dunki Day 1 Box Office Predictions Unveiled

According to film critic Sumit Kadel, this film is gearing up for a stellar opening at the Indian box office, with predictions ranging from Rs 38-40 crore on day one. Even with a clash against the Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer Salaar, set to release on December 22, a day after Dunki, Sumit Kadel predicts that our favorite Khan’s film will easily surpass the Rs 180 crore mark in its five-day weekend.

Great news, folks! Dunki is making waves with a whopping 5.58 lakh tickets sold, worth around Rs 15.41 crore across 15,014 Hindi shows. Key players in securing those early tickets for the movie were Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, West Bengal, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Assam, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha and Tamil Nadu, as per film trade portal Sacnilk. Over 2 lakh tickets flew off the shelves at national multiplex chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis.

Some aren’t quite feeling the excitement as much as others.

“I had a lot of expectations from Raju Hirani but I guess he could not evolve with time, the jokes and writing were old. I am a Shah Rukh fan but I am very disappointed…,” another fan said.

“I am a huge Shah Rukh fan, I was waiting for this movie…But I am super disappointed,” came from another.

Dunki directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, the movie dives into the intriguing world of ‘donkey flight’ or ‘dunki’—an underground method immigrants use for sneaking into countries like the UK, the US, and Canada. But that’s not all, it also sheds light on the lives of these brave individuals and their families when they make the choice to return to their homeland. This cinematic gem comes to life through the collaborative efforts of production house Red Chillies Entertainment, JIO Studios, and Rajkumar Hirani Films.
